Double or triple smash burger: which should you order?
Order a double smash if you want a classic, balanced burger. Order a triple if you are very hungry or love crust and melted cheese in every layer. Both use thin patties, so each extra layer adds crisp edges, not just more meat.
Smash burgers are usually stacked. A single thin patty is too slim to feel like a proper burger, so most smash burgers come with two, and the biggest come with three. Here is how to choose between a double and a triple, and what changes as you add layers.
Why smash burgers are stacked
A smash patty is pressed thin so it cooks fast and crisps at the edges. That crisp texture is what you want, but it means one patty on its own is small. Stacking two or three patties gives you:
- More crust. Every patty has its own lacy, browned edge.
- More cheese. A slice on each patty glues the layers together.
- A better bite. Layers compress together into a single juicy mouthful.

The double smash
Every burger on the DesiSmash menu except one is a double smash on a butter-toasted brioche bun. In the Original style that is two 2 oz patties, and in the Desi style it is two 2.5 oz patties.
- Best for: a satisfying dinner, especially as a meal with fries and a can.
- Why people like it: the balance. You get plenty of crust and melt without the burger becoming hard to hold.
- Try it: The OG Smash, the Tikka Butter Melt or the Smoked BBQ Pitmaster.
The Triple Threat
The Triple Threat is the biggest burger we make: three 2.5 oz smashed patties, three slices of melted cheese, double pickles and extra OG sauce. It is built for people with a serious appetite.
- Best for: big appetites, sharing the experience with a friend, or a treat.
- Why people like it: three layers of crust, three layers of melted cheese, and a lot of tangy sauce to cut through the richness.
- Heads up: it is a lot to eat. If you are not sure, start with a double.

Double or triple: a quick comparison
- Size: a double is a full burger. A triple is a challenge.
- Crust-to-bun ratio: the more patties, the more crust you get compared with bread.
- Cheese: a triple has three slices, a double has two.
- Hold-ability: doubles are easier to eat with one hand.
- Sauce: triples have extra sauce, and pickles help cut through.
Can I get a triple with other burgers?
The Triple Threat is a set build with its own sauce and pickles, and the other burgers are doubles. If you want something different, add a note when you order and ask on WhatsApp.
What to pair with each
- With a double: seasoned fries and a can make a complete meal.
- With a triple: keep the sides simple, such as sea salt fries, and add a cold can. See loaded fries and sides for ideas.
Beef or chicken?
Both work in a stack. Beef gives a deeper flavour, chicken thigh a lighter bite. See beef or chicken smash burger for help choosing.
